How safe are you on Asia\u2019s roads?<\/em><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Road safety statistics in Asia<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Certain countries in the Asia Pacific region have a poor record when it comes to road safety.<\/p>\n<p>In Cambodia, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.undp.org\/cambodia\/publications\/road-traffic-accidents-cambodia\">an average of 5.4 people die every day on the roads<\/a>, making road traffic accidents the sixth most common cause of death in the country.<\/p>\n<p>As well as the heavy human cost, accidents on the road represent a huge economic burden for Cambodia. The United Nations estimated the cost at $466.8million in 2019, which represents 1.7% of GDP.<\/p>\n<p>In Vietnam the roads are even more deadly, although statistics suggest road accidents and deaths are reducing. The country <a href=\"https:\/\/en.vietnamplus.vn\/vietnam-sees-decrease-in-traffic-accidents\/219779.vnp\">recorded around 11,500 traffic accidents nationwide in 2021<\/a>, causing nearly 5,800 deaths, with more than 8,000 people injured. That\u2019s over 15 deaths per day.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Driving safely in Asia<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>All drivers have a responsibility to themselves and other road users to take measures to reduce the risk of car accidents.
